A Spitfire of No.72 Squadron patrols the skies over Kent in the summer of 1940. This aircraft was flown during the Battle of Britain by Flight Lieutenant Des Sheen, an Australian pre-war volunteer. In April 1941 Sheen was given command of No.72 Squadron, and he led it until October. He was awarded a Bar to the DFC on 21st October 1941. Sheen was released from the RAF in 1946, but rejoined in 1950.
